Chirac Arrives in South Africa

JOHANNESBURG French President Jacques Chirac arrived in South Africa from neighbouring Namibia on Friday at the start of a three-day visit to the country. Chirac, accompanied by three French cabinet ministers and a delegation of more than 40 businessmen, arrived at Waterkloof air force base outside the capital Pretoria. He was to be officially greeted by President Nelson Mandela at the government headquarters, union buildings, in Pretoria, before participating in an economic forum with Deputy President Thabo Mbeki. Chirac is also due to visit Angola and Mozambique during his six-day tour of southern Africa. (AFP)
